Don’t choke on wildfire smoke this season

  • Be aware of potential health effects. Common symptoms of smoke exposure include sore throat, running nose, mild cough, eye irritation, wheezy breathing and headaches. People with underlying conditions may experience more severe symptoms.
  • Try to limit strenuous work when possible. However, when outdoor work is necessary in smoky conditions, look for ways to reduce workers’ physical activity as much as possible. Physical exertion can increase air intake; minimize with strategic planning and awareness of conditions.
  • Manage the time, day, work location and conditions when performing or assigning various tasks.
