Winnipeg’s commodity exchange has delisted the final remnant of its old barley futures contract. ICE Futures Canada announced Oct. 15 it had delisted its December 2009 Western Barley contract (futures and options) effective immediately, on the last trading day for its October 2009 contract.

The October and December 2009 contracts were the last remaining under its old “Rule 18” contract structure, and neither had any outstanding open interest, ICE said in a memo to exchange participants.

ICE in June listed a revised Western Barley futures contract, for which the contract specifications are detailed in the new “Rule 19.” All “Rule 19” barley contracts, including November 2009, January 2010 and subsequent months, remain listed.

“Many of these months have open interest, and the revised contract has the broad support of the trading community,” ICE said of the new contract months.

Among the revisions in “Rule 19” are a delivery region focused on southern Alberta; shipment into the buyer’s facility; and a new Barley Merchant participant category that may make delivery.
