Sylvia Mathon, Rangeland of the 4-H Beef Club in Innisfail is one of nine volunteer 4-H leaders from across Canada selected for the 2008 Co-operators Volunteer Leader of the Year Award.
Each winner received a $100 gift, as well as Co-operators and 4-H merchandise. In addition, one volunteer will be recognized as the grand prize winner, and receive a trip to the 4-H Annual Meeting in Prince Edward Island in May, 2009.
“This award from the Co-operators and the Canadian 4-H Council is a great way to recognize the tireless efforts of our more than 8,500 volunteers,” Bob McAuley, president of the Canadian 4-H Council said in a release. “Without them, we would not have the vibrant 4-H program in Canada that we have today.”

Collectively, the volunteer leaders that were selected have more than 120 years of involvement with 4-H.
“The amount of time devoted to 4-H is a reflection on the quality of these volunteers,” McAuley sais. “Clearly, 4-H plays an extremely important role in their lives, and we thank them for their continued time and efforts.”
The Volunteer Leader of the Year Award is selected from nominations sent in by 4-H Members across Canada.
