There was no debating this.
Organizers of the Canadian Young Speakers for Agriculture have cancelled the 2020 competition “in the interest of the safety and well-being” of its participants and volunteers.
The 35-year-old event has seen more than 1,000 young people aged 11 to 24 compete for national honours at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto in November. In the last five events, Alberta participants have won either the senior or junior title, with Ellie Stauffer and Ryley Mappin combining for a sweep of both awards last year.
Organizers say they are planning to hold the event in 2021.
