Water monitoring project funded

Alberta’s new research funding agency is putting $750,000 over three years into a “novel water monitoring project.” The project aims to develop best practices “to protect water habitats from crop protection product use,” Results Driven Agriculture Research (RDAR) said in a release.

The research will be done by the Crop Sector Working Group, composed of a number of provincial crop commodity organizations along with Syngenta, BASF, and Bayer Crop Science Canada.

“The data collected from this project will give farmers a better understanding of how stewardship practices can be further employed and adopted to continue to prevent the movement of crop protection products in the environment,” said Don Shepert, chair of the working group and past chair of Alberta Pulse Growers.
