Grain and oilseed exports are running well ahead of year-ago levels nine weeks into the crop year, according to Canadian Grain Commission data. Toal bulk exports of the major grains and oilseeds totalled 8.34 million tonnes as of Oct. 4, versus 6.78 million tonnes exported during the same period in 2019.

Canola exports reached 1.88 million tonnes (up 43 per cent from a year earlier), total wheat exports were 3.75 million (up 35 per cent) and barley exports soared to 462,400 tonnes — more than double year-ago levels. But durum sales were down considerably (487,000 tonnes versus 860,000 tonnes a year earlier).

Peas and lentil exports were both up, by 67,000 tonnes and 53,000 tonnes respectively.
