The provincial barley, wheat, and canola commissions have announced new directors.
Tara Sawyer from Acme was acclaimed to the board of Alberta Barley as director-at-large replacing Brian Sewell from High River. Neil Gorda from Willingdon was also acclaimed as a director for Region 4. An election was to be held for the Region 3 director, where Jason Lenz, a former chair, is completing his final term.
Two delegates were also acclaimed: Brad Berger from Nanton in Region 1 and Roy Newman from Blackie in Region 2. The organization has 34 delegate positions and there were vacancies in all regions, with nominations being sought during the Next Level Farming meetings, which continue until the end of the month. There are two new directors for Alberta Wheat with Greg Sears from Sexsmith and David Bartlett from Fairview acclaimed in Region 5. They replace Cole Siegle and Warren Sekulic.
Also acclaimed was Jason Saunders from Taber, who is entering his second term, in Region 1. As well, there is a director vacancy in Region 1 where board chair Gary Stanford from Magrath is completing his final term. Stanford, who will continue as chair until the AGM at the end of January, was acclaimed as a regional representative, as was Christi Friesen from Brownvale in Region 5.
Alberta Canola saw two producers being re-elected by acclamation, while elections will be held in two other regions.
Dan Doll from Fairview will serve a second term as director in Region 1, and Cale Staden from Vermilion will serve a second term as director for Region 10. Elections will be held for Region 4 and Region 7 with an information package and a ballot sent out by Nov. 30. Ballots will be counted on Jan. 3.
