Crop commissions now in charge of Blue Book

The province’s big four crop commissions are taking over publication of the Blue Book.

The popular annual update of information on herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and seed treatments has been published by the provincial Agriculture Ministry for more than two decades.

But the province’s wheat, barley, canola and pulse commissions are now taking over the publication of the Blue Book (officially called the Crop Protection Guide).

“We wanted to ensure this long-standing publication continues to deliver value to Alberta farmers and agronomists,” Alberta Wheat/Alberta Barley general manager Tom Steve said in the latest edition of The Grain Exchange newsletter put out by the two farm groups.

A consultant has been hired to lead the process of pesticide product additions and updates and the new edition will be available in mid-March, the newsletter article said.

Further information, including when copies can be purchased, will be available at albertawheat.com or albertabluebook.com.
