Richardson decision on oats decried

The Prairie Oat Growers Association is upset that Richardson Pioneer plans to only source milling oats that were not treated with a pre-harvest desiccant.

The farm group said that “while we understand this is a business decision, POGA is extremely disappointed that customer demand is being driven by information that is not science based.”

Glyphosate has been shown to be safe in numerous studies and is key to effective weed control, it said.

“By eliminating critical management practices and increasing the cost of production, we will continue to lose farmers and market share,” said the group, adding producers should contact their MLA, MP and government officials so they know “this is an issue that impacts all producers.”
